Karl-Anthony Towns (NYK) is our Player of the Week for the NBA Finals, Games 1-2.

The New York Knicks traveled to San Antonio for the NBA Finals carrying an 11-game playoff winning streak. They left with that number at 13 and a commanding 2-0 series lead, powered by the two-way dominance of Karl-Anthony Towns.

In Game 1, the Knicks fell behind by 14 in the third quarter before mounting a furious comeback. Towns anchored the interior with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists while neutralizing Victor Wembanyama on the defensive end. The DPOY managed 26 points but shot just 6 for 21, with only 2 makes in 12 attempts when Towns was the primary defender. Jalen Brunson's 13-point fourth quarter sealed the 105-95 victory.

Game 2 was even tighter. Towns came out aggressive, pouring in 17 of his 21 points in the first half and repeatedly unsettling Wembanyama with his offensive versatility. He shot 8 for 12 on the night with 3 threes, added 13 rebounds, and delivered a highlight dime from under the basket that lit up Frost Bank Center. The Spurs clawed back with a 14-0 run to tie it at 97, but Wembanyama's turnover in the final seconds sent Brunson to the free throw line, and the Knicks escaped 105-104.

Towns finished the regular season ranked #10 in our MVP model, and the Knicks were identified as an 11.5% championship contender. Through two Finals games, he leads the series in scoring efficiency (55.6 FG%, 65.8 TS%) while averaging 12.5 boards per game, emerging as the frontrunner for Finals MVP. Only the 1993 Bulls and 1995 Rockets have won the first two Finals games on the road. Both won the title.
